Sweet Petey has had a really hard life and yet his love for people hasn’t been dampened. Petey is a pint-sized, 6-year old little beagle, that proves every day that dogs are simply the most kind-hearted creatures. When he was pulled from the shelter he really didn’t know much of anything about being a dog. He didn’t know what a dog bed was. He wasn’t potty trained and would cower in his kennel and then pee on himself. He didn’t know what treats were. He didn’t know how to go up or down stairs. He came to us at only 15 lbs. (you could count his ribs!) and has since put on 3 lbs and you can tell he is feeling so much better and has a lot more energy! Every day with Petey has been a wonderful reward, as we’re witnessing him come back to life and explore his world a little more every day!
Petey has made HUGE progress in potty training and he’s growing in his confidence to let us know when he wants to go outside.
Petey LOVES everyone, including kids. He is gentle and kind and will be your best buddy. Petey is wonderful with other dogs. He will try to play, but if a dog signals they don’t want to play, Petey is very good at taking the cue and will leave the dog alone. He is perhaps too interested in cats so he’ll need to be cat tested if going to a home with cats.
Petey is a typical hound and loves to sniff. On his daily walks he pretty much sniffs the whole time and is so happy to be on an adventure!
Petey is an AMAZING sleeper. He goes to bed with his humans and he will stay in bed until they wake up. He has not had an accident overnight.
Petey does get a little sad when his foster parents leave the house, especially as he becomes more bonded. It’s also fairly clear that he was kept in a cage for most of his life as he has significant dental damage from chewing on metal bars. He is hoping to find an adopter who has patience and continues to teach Petey that he’s in a safe home and won’t be kept in a cage all the time.
Petey needs patience and love, but you will be rewarded with one of the most sweet-spirited loyal buddies you could ever ask for. He is a real sweetheart and is going to make the right family incredibly happy.
