    This will be a big transition in lifestyle for your new pet - and probably for you, as well. Here are a few things to keep in mind:

    1. If possible, it would be helpful if you could do your best to keep your home life as calm as possible for a week after you bring your pet home.

    2. If possible, ease your pet into your home by offering the same food <and litter> that they have been eating <and using>. You are welcome to transition them to your preferred food <and litter> after a week, but keeping food <and litter> consistent ensures a smoother adjustment.

    3. Please make sure that, if there are children in the home, they know how to properly interact with their new pet. Closely supervise these interactions at first, until everyone is comfortable.

    4. Most pets need more physical exercise and mental stimulation than they usually get. A tired pet is more often a well-behaved pet!

    5. Spending time on training upfront can be incredibly beneficial. For cats, simply ensuring they have easy access to a consistently clean litter box (or more, if there are multiple cats) makes for a happier household.
