Nala is a very sweet and playful pup. She might be a bit shy at first but with a walk, treats, and some patience and love she will come right out of her shell. Nala absolutely loves to cuddle and will join you on the couch whatever chance she gets. Sometimes she gets overwhelmed with excitement with physical touch and has a tendency to mouth. She’s been working diligently on redirecting this habit to toys and has improved tremendously but occasionally she gets too excited and forgets. An ‘ouch’ usually does the trick and she knows to stop. Speaking of ‘knowing’ she is a really smart girl. She already knows ‘sit’ ‘lay down’ and ‘wait.’ She is kennel trained and can almost last through the night. She usually wakes up around 5:30 to use the bathroom and then will go right back in her kennel and back to sleep until around 8AM. Nala doesn’t really whine or bark. So it’s best to take her outside in intervals throughout the day because she won’t really notify you that she has to use the bathroom. However, once you take her outside she’ll use the bathroom promptly.
Nala is just over one year old and while she isn’t the most energetic pup, she is still a young dog and has a lot of energy. She loves to chase her toys and go on walks. She has a strong prey drive, especially for squirrels and birds, but has been working on responding to “to me” or “leave it.” Nala is a wonderful dog who is going to bring loads of joy, cuddles, and laughter to someone’s life. She just needs someone who is willing to be a little patient with her and provide her with a bit more training. Overall we can not believe she was in a shelter for almost half her life - she is just so sweet.
Nala is somewhat leash reactive to other dogs on walks. Nala is shy when meeting new people. She will growl if someone she doesn’t know walks into the house and she hasn’t been properly introduced. When we introduced her to a new person outside, while on leash, and had that person lead her back into the house she was completely fine.
