Hello, fellow animal lovers! My name is Liza Vinson, and today I’m excited to share my experience as a foster for Beautiful Together Sanctuary. I am currently a senior at UNC Chapel Hill, and I absolutely adore animals. However, I am not able to adopt my own while I am in school and wanting to travel so fostering was the perfect fit for me!
I lost my childhood cat and best friend, Lila, last year and was absolutely heartbroken. She had been a rescue kitten that my parents gifted to me for my 7th birthday, and who I was obsessed with ever since! So, after her loss, becoming a foster mom for kittens in need has been an incredible way for me to heal and provide a loving home for other rescue cats like Lila. Every kitten I’ve fostered has, in return, provided me with the love and companionship that I so desperately needed.
Over the course of my time as a foster, I’ve had so much fun caring for three rounds of kittens, each with their own unique personalities and quirks. The first litter, fondly known as the Green Litter, consisted of four itty bitty bundles of joy. These playful kittens brought tons of laughter and energy into my home, and were so so fun to foster. Next came a pair of kittens with remarkably different personalities. Spirit was outgoing and affectionate, always eager for cuddles and attention. Ebony was more reserved but equally as loving, melting my heart with his shy but sweet demeanor. My most recent foster cat, Nemo, was a single gray kitten with an independent spirit. Nemo was so easy to care for, with his self-sufficient nature and calming personality made him such a sweet companion. The most rewarding part of all though was watching each and every one find their forever home!
Throughout my fostering experience, Beautiful Together has been an incredible support system. They provided all the necessary supplies, from food to litter, and even arranged transport for vet appointments. They were also available through text 24/7 to help answer any questions I had and help give me assistance and guidance. They truly couldn’t have made being a foster mom an easier experience.
To anyone considering fostering or adopting a pet, I wholeheartedly encourage you to take the leap. Not only is it a super easy, fun process but you’re helping to save the lives of animals who have ended up in shelters. Not only that, but the love and companionship that these kitties have brought into my life has been truly incredible, and seeing them find their forever home is an absolutely amazing feeling.
