Our fearless leader is also an incredible photographer! We are so excited for some new sanctuary updates coming soon, which will allow us to take even more soul-connecting portraits of these little loves!
From Tamara Lackey, our founder:
I love photographing rescue pets – from brand new babies to future best-friend pups to so many ridiculously hilarious cats. They are vulnerable and loving and shy and excited and goofy and sweet. It’s one of the best parts of my life, getting to be around so much sweetness so often.
Since we kicked off @beautifultogethersanctuary’s animal rescue operations in early 2021, we have pulled close to 1450 homeless pets from animals shelters and inhumane situations. If you want to help by fostering, volunteering, adopting or donating you can do so at BeautifulTogetherSanctuary.com, via the link in my bio.
For photography lovers, I shot these images with @Nikonusa gear, primarily using my 105mm f/1.4 and Z 24-70mm f/4 S lenses. A good tip to keep in mind when photographing pet portraits is to isolate the animal from their surroundings, either physically or via a shallow depth of field. And, when doable, minimize distractions so they can focus their attention on you. It’s especially important to do this when you are hoping to make a connection between animals (like homeless pets) and people who may feel drawn to them (like potential adopters). In many ways, the photographer is the connector. If you can get them to see you, no matter how briefly, you can give another the opportunity to see them, too. And sometimes that’s all you need. Truly.
It’s incredible how often one single image can make a family.
